New Phoenix Park Shuttle Bus Service


A new service from Parkgate Street operating around the Phoenix Park serving Dublin Zoo, Farmleigh, the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre and the Papal Cross is now in operation.

The service is operated by First Aircoach, using three LPG (liquid petroleum gas) powered DAF East Lancs Myllennium single deckers. The buses were formally used in London on Routes M1 (from Charlton Station) & M2 (from Greenwich Station) to the Millennium Dome operated by London Central's New Cross Depot. There were 12 of the type, with 3 using LPG and the rest using low sulphur diesel. There is futher info and pictures on the M1 service here, under the Public Transport Demonstration System section. The buses have now been aquired by First Aircoach for use on the Phoenix Park shuttle service and they are based a their depot near Dublin Airport.

The route departs from Parkgate Street and enters the park via the Parkgate St. gate, turning right towards the Zoo and Garda Headquarters, where the first stop is located. The route continues around by the Ralta House and the Ashtown Gate, stopping again near the gate. The next stop then is Farmleigh where the bus u-turns back out to Chesterfield Avenue passing the Phoenix Monument and entering into the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre where there is also a restaurant, toilets and a playground.

The buses are able to carry one wheelchair, with the boarding ramp positioned in the centre door.

The service operates:

07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday
(every 30 mins 07:00 to 10:00, then every 20 mins until 17:00 and every half hour until last bus from Parkgate St. at 18:30)

10:00 to 19:00 Saturday, Sunday and Holidays
(every 20 mins until 17:00 and every half
hour until last bus from Parkgate St. at 18:30)

The fare is 1 euro, ticket
valid for the day so you can hop on and hop off at your leisure at the different stops around the park.

The bus waits here for a few minutes, before setting off towards Parkgate Street, stopping once more at the Zoo and Tea Rooms. The final stop is on Parkgate Street where passengers can then catch a Dublin Bus 25/A, 26, 51, 66/A/B/D, 67/A, 68 or 69 from Parkgate St. or walk over to Heuston Station for a 90, 92 or LUAS Red Line tram to the city centre.
